JIM YONG KIM:
He is heading for another five-year term as president of the World Bank after no other candidates emerged during a hurried nomination process. A medical doctor and anthropologist by training plucked from the prestigious Dartmouth College by Mr Obama in 2012, Mr Kim has drawn criticism for pushing through a vast restructuring of the bank that has caused years of turmoil and questions about whether it has delivered a promised $400m in cost savings.
JUNAID AHMAD:
Junaid Ahmad has become the World Bank’s Country Director for India, replacing Onno Ruhl who served a four-year term based out of the national capital. Hailing from Bangladesh, Ahmad was Chief of Staff to the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim before being elevated to the current position. India is the World Bank Group’s largest client. As of June 2016, the bank’s net commitments to India stood at USD 27 billion (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development USD 16 billion, International Development Association USD 11 billion) across 95 projects.
