\nIndia is the third largest producer of fertilisers in the world. India has to rely on other countries for the potassicfertilisers. This has happened due to its own insignificant commercially exploitable reserves of potash. During 2003-04 India imported over 1.7 million tonne of potassicfertilisers for direct application as well as for production of complex fertilisers. As per the forecast of FAO, India\u2019s foodgrain production in the current season will be up atleast 10% to 232 million tonne.
